The problem with Finding the Main Idea

Another vapid non report from #edreform movement and a shame as I generally agree. Some points:

• This study is about reading assessment not instruction.
• It doesn't site one study that since the 80s finds moderate to high effect sizes for strategy instruction especially for struggling readers
• It doesn't cite any empirical research just a drive by citation of E.D. Hirsch and Willingham
• The only case study discussed is one being developed by the author. 
• Text based analysis, mentor texts, text based discussions, text structure we know from reproducible science this helps students to understand reading.
