There is something remarkable about the fact that, with everything we have created in the past 20 years or so, I can still take a complete beginner and teach them to build a simple webpage with HTML and CSS, in a day.

This is still true and I  do get people up and running in a day...but it really takes a semester for students find "their wings" but I scaffold through Wordpress.com I haven't gone full bore into start with just HTML...

Youth today have never known a world beyond social media. I need something like WordPress.com just like folks such as Rachel had geocities, MySpace, and livejournal.

Few people ever got started with an empty text editor.
