Trying to Master Sections and Learning how to make single page wesbites #Teachtheweb

I don't know the history of modern design but it fascinates me. It is as if Design is becoming more of a standard rather than a trend. The rise of minimal, flat, material (not sure what its called) design happened so fast.

I don't know what drove it. Was it Apple turning away from skeumorphic design; Medium ushering in an era of large header images, line spacing that aids comprehension, and wonderful fonts; or Google with Material design? don't know if there was some larger force pulling on Design that is reflected in the world outside of the Web.

I see this most in the rise of the singlepage website and the use of Font Awesome Icons.

Font Awesome Icons.

Is this just the effect of mobile? The benefits of loading Clip Art 2.0 versus huge jpeg files has to mean something in mobile. Plus being able to style Font Awesome stuff just like any other element is really cool.

Are there mounds of data testing different colors, flat one-tone images? Probably. Be fun line to investigate.

Single Page Websites

This has to be another response to the mobile web. They pop up everywhere. Even if it isn't a single page websites there is a tendancy to use an endless scroll and lots of sections. Some folks to really cool stuff with CSS Animation to play.

My Attempts

These are my first two attempts. I failed pretty well:

This is my first full one page website. I found the template online and uploaded all the files. I didn't get to personalinzing the images and css yet.

I will probably change the colors. I find myself turning away from white on black.

Somehow I messed up the navigation. It is driving me crazy. I went back to the original html in GIt and vopied it over like five times.

I wonder if I messed up when uploading all the files ino cPanel.

This was my first time playing with the section tag. I stole the sizing idea from a Medium article. I have no idea what 100vh means. I am guessing vertical height.

I edventually want to use a smaller header on that page, but this means learning conditional tags in Wordpress. I don't have the mental or schedule capacity to start messing with that stuff yet.

It sections also looks kind of silly within the theme body. I wonder if I can use conditional tags to get a truly blank slate but keeping the theme. Would I need to just publish one on a subdomain? Thay would work.

Web is Moving On

Just as I am figuring out enough to screw up  design while making cool stuff the web continues to evolve Websites are getting more complex as the design gets minimized. Its an interesting paradox. Everything seems to be a js file or a script now. Who knows where the web will be by the time I learn that stuff.
