Open Web Leadership and #teachtheweb

So we had our next leadership and learning (formerly Open Fluency Call) yesterday. Don't have time for a a full blog post so wanted to jot down a few thoughts.

Agreements (subject to change often)

• We will start thinking abut this as Open Web Leadership instead of Open Fluency
• We are going to try and define each of the competencies under Laura's original framework.
• Our focus is on "Understanding" this next two weeks
• We decided that there is too much overlap in the understanding strand.
• People should look on the new Git repo for the help wanted tag and jump in

Semi-Agreements

• Noone likes the word understanding, except when it makes sense which is often.
• We are thinking about it as what you need to know, what you need to do, and why you do it

My Thoughts

• The three strands are very similar to the declarative, procedural, and conditional knowledge found in cognitive psychology. They are similar to the knowledge, skills, and dispostions found in most pedagogical literature.
• I wonder if Open Web Leadership needs to include something about teaching or is a leader a teacher by definition. Maybe we need to reframe learning not so much as learning content but learning community.
• Open Web leadership is co-evolutionary with both the community and the tech.
• Open Web leadership must have a social aim (the third strand...why we do what we do with what we know)
• Open Web leadership must focus on increased digital participation.
• Open Web leadership is both horizontal and vertical with leaders serving as a resource and a portal to new members.
