Inaugural "Open Fluency" Calls for #teachtheweb
Laura Hilliger organized the first Mozilla Learning Networks call around "Open Fluency." This is part of Laura's ongoing charge of Teach Like Mozilla.

I am excited for the calls we brought much of the old #webliteracy team back together plus added in Mozilla reps and a more diverse crowd.

As Laura said we did not want the #WebLiteracy brain trust to go to waste.
There are some relevant issues in GitHub. I think from what I gather Laura is working on Teach Like a Mozilla. As I said I think what folks are trying to get at here is good pedagogy but branded (something I am okay with and support).
Gather and collate resources for Teach Like Mozilla module
I think there were more. I am not good at tracking the issues across different repos that interest me. I usually just post from email and then I lose stuff.
Basically Laura has taken the task of TLM and is now trying to get at what does it take to get people on the web journey. How do we take, as Michele Thorne often discusses, folks from web zeros to web heroes.
This is the same as TLM but different. Bigger but smaller. That's how Laura (and Mozilla) works. Awesome people trying to do awesome stuff. Of course it can't be easy.
This is what I think, maybe, and just for now
We are trying to decide what is the special sauce in leaders of the Open Web. What do those in Networked Learning spaces know, do, and value?
I think of folks like Alan Levine, Martin Hawksey, danah boyd, John Udell, Kevin Marks, Jim Groom Howard Rheingold, and Maha Bali. That is the mold we want to want to shape folks into. How do we take a young club mentor from Kenya, India, and Chicago and develop the next generation of Open Web Leaders.
It is a tall order.
We have to first figure out the special sauce.
The Take-Aways
We will have two week calls.
We are not going to worry about naming our baskets yet but just think about what goes into those baskets. What are the skills (I don't like Open Fluency but care more about the meat than the packaging...how is that for mixed metaphors?)
Leadership matters.
We will do the asynchronous chat on our own blogs and discourse. This is connected to adovcay based on url and not connected to webmaker or to teach.
We will use the #teachtheweb hashtag

We will be holding the calls every two weeks on Thursday. Not sure if it is 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th because there are five Thursdays in April.
