Great post and awesome thoughts on how diverse discovery is just as hard for humans as it is for algorithms.
I sometimes feel out of place on micro.blog., but no where near your level as i will never know your imigrant experience.
Micro.blog is such an iOS crowd..which in turn also means a whiter and richer crowd. I know to stay away after Apple or WWDC announcements.
Do you play on Mastodon, way more diverse instances there.
In terms of full Indie or Twitter too. I use a hybrid approach. If I know someone accepts webmentions I skip the network, but I still hang with my teacher friends on Twitter.
I do want to finish off with a hat tip to Jeanie and Manton for all the work they do building safer discovery. It isn't perfect and your point of it not being representative is spot on, but good to know good people trying to solve hard problem.
