#edu407 I actually shy away from trying to build my vocabulary lesson plans away from students selecting words they do not know from independent reading. I want to be very deliberate in the words I choose and it is impossible to know which to pick from 25 different books.
Instead have students collect them and feel free to select from their notebooks. Even then you have to consider the balance of instructional minutes. Often time academic vocabulary is best developed through shared text.
