Explaining my "No Hungry Caterpillar Rule" to #edu506 and #edu307 students: There are soo many other books out there. It is well illustrated and a classic...but that means your students have seen it and the book isn't really that good at sequencing, butterfly life cycle, and is void of plot. ...but its really just too many years of teacher prep. It's like th

@Ann123abc456xyz @kozinnski @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman thx for the h/t & accessibility issue. Hopefully well marked up semantic HTML and machine readable recipes help. I am watching my kids learn to read and accessibility tools just part of the their literacy environment, close captions, screen readers, voice search...etc

Those who make it as independent bloggers, TikTokers, Vloggers work around the clock, usually come from privileged background that allow you to keep up the fake hustle dream. Still many jobs for food writers and writers, so write

@Ann123abc456xyz @kozinnski @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman I stopped using free wordpress sites with students when I had a student writing about recovering from eating disorders and kept getting served up fat shaming ads. The ad networks are predatory and the chances of making a living on CPM/SEO for a food blogger so slim.

@Ann123abc456xyz @kozinnski @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman It is also important to me as a teacher. I teach an intro to teaching class that follows: tell your story, learn something, teach something, do something. A large majority of website products are food and/or healthy living websites.

@Ann123abc456xyz @kozinnski @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman someone though put in context for me: while recipe kruff almost as universally hated as cell phone providers. it is an outsider seeing a "community" as a market and looking to "disrupt" it without the needs of the community in mind Not atool for food bloggers by food bloggers

Lets spend money in places that reinvest in those. Don't know how it works beyond, "get a blog"

@kozinnski @Ann123abc456xyz @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman So the only natural reaction when searching for a recipe and having to sift through stories is, "WTF do I have to read this story when I ask for a recipe?" Followed by, "darn now I got fish guts on my phone." Why do recipe sites stink. Cant an app to make it better?

@kozinnski @Ann123abc456xyz @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman Please don't equate a parent's lack of time or tech knowledge as laziness. Lack of understanding yes but its a cultural difference as well. When a parent (my age)in town found out I had a blog. The response was. "You have a blog, I never knew a blogger."

@kozinnski @Ann123abc456xyz @libraryseedbank @rowasc @redman and any bit of friction introduces a compromised UX. As an author when you let a publisher exploit your readers they are exploiting you and that relationship Saying I must give up personal data as a way to support women and people of color can not be the answer.

@AleaMilham @conradcaplin @redman The doing the right thing isn't the tricky part, its stopping people from doing it I meant. Thank you to all food bloggers out there, must be tough fighting against the Conde Naste sites of the world. Looking forward to a solution that fixes the UX and reinvests in community
