At our @scsu strategic meeting about grad coordinators and providing the time everyone was focused on evenings. Interestingly in my online classes the 600-7:00 am have been the most widely booked times. Working mothers and teachers are up early and often the house isn't
Yes building out word walls and showing kids patterns are a great way to learn. Never understood a vocabulary, maybe a section on a measure of content knowledge but not testing vocabulary for vocabulary's sake. Immerse kids in words and measure how they use vocabulary not how they recite it.
readings on gender and open source https://thenewstack.io/how-men-and-women-approach-open-source-differently/ @sunnydeveloper https://blog.mozilla.org/internetcitizen/2019/03/04/open-source-inclusion/ and jenny mackness https://jennymackness.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/when-inclusion-excludes-mfjm-280218.pdf reveal that even if we can drive success on one me
#edu407 And the data supports your conclusion. In Connecticut we have much to do in the area of numeracy. We have some persistent differences in subgroup scores but in general, our reading and writing scores are high in Connecticut. We need to think about meaning making with numbers. #numeracy so much more than solving algorithms.
With all the major portfolio #edtech companies getting scooped up in a period of mass consolidation we will remind folks that we should focus on web presence and not portfolios. That it all begins with the sentence, "My url is..." #digped #indieweb #DoOO
Hey @goifoundation scratch that. Our mediawiki install does not have a visual editor. If you know of anyone in the @wikipedia community who might want to contribute we have some extensions like the file uploader and visual editor to add. I could learn but never efficient and not always effective.
[https://known.kenbauer.me I switched the video about creating your user page on the wiki: https://jgregorymcverry.com/hwcpagetutorial.html and rewrote the wikify page https://indieweb.org/wikifying thank you so much for your help. Like a time-shifted cognitive lab with some @gRegorLove help
So excited to use @withknown as our platform to address equity and gender gaps in Ghana. https://ursulazage.goifnetwork.org idea of picking something we each want to learn and getting used to the system will be a great way to attract community members. #IndieWeb
https://sadik.goifnetwork.org this is an awesome post:https://www.goifoundation.org/whats-new-with-gois-known-oer-platform/ still time to add it here https://indieweb.org/events/2019-03-20-homebrew-website-club and make #IndieWeb newsletter
@wiobyrne and I are there so you know #openbadges will be discussed, especially now that Salesforce and Credly both have patented systems (Why the #FOSS and #EFF community did not get outraged over this???) we need to consider alternative to emerging silos.
After watching people try the new video tutorial to wikify themselves on the #IndieWeb wiki I see I need to include visiting the how to guide @gRegorLove maintains and have people watch me use templates. Will re-record and swap out videos.
We will also have to cover portfolio assessment. A favorite of mine since being an elementary school teachers and writing portfolios were great science experiments..collecting layers of dust as they were passed unused year to year.
In #edu305 #edu407 #edu307 we will learn that these "simple rhyme words" (avoid words like simple...what comes easy to you doesn't to students) are called part of onset and rhymes and the cvc words you refer to are usually closed syllable (meaning short vowel) There are 37 major rimes in the English language.
And we are also into #edtech we want the badges and chatbots and AI. We believe we can have this without the exploitation. So we will explore alternatives. We have to. We are in teacher preparation. Institutional assessment is a reality, everyone knows we are drowning in data but the only solution folks seem to agree on is adding more water.
@oer_cameroon If you want to get involved in what the @goifoundation is doing please do! We had to find a $200 US sponsor, but that was enough to launch a pilot for quite a few folks. I can't fundraise but happy to help if you jump on board. #oer19 #oer
This is where I think we can use a lot of the #IndieWeb infrastructure in #openpedagogy assessment: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/03/21/to-go-far-enough-digped let's just make it opt-in by default. Privacy through data empowerment...a more technical description: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/02/22/thinking-about-microformats
@goifnetwork I will make a quick guide on both HTML and wiki markup for you but like poems, puzzles, and paragraphs it all comes down to patterns. ...We still need to find some help adding some basics to the wiki.
@goifnetwork if you save the @withknown app to your home screen on your mobile it makes for a great app experience. Image uploader and source code editor leave something to be desired but that is outdated TinyMCE, fix is coming soon I am sure.
Andy Blunden sent me this paper: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/03/07/ablundenpdfssocialpdf I am going to start there, coming from his communist perspective, he cast social capital more about poverty and solidarity. Except the digital can erase the false scarcity of knowledge that poverty often reinforces,
