Everything runs through Instagram, word of mouth, and PayPal. I wish all this talk about CBE and skills at #ASUSGSV2918 would take a lesson from 30 years of reading research and realize teaching skills does little without knowledge. We know we can teach decoding that's easy. Doesn't make a better reader alone.

I keep hearing about this survey of teen iPhone use all over the tech press..and I don't believe it. I don't believe any any survey until I read the methodology but this is off. Not sure 84% of US teens own a smart phone. That seems high. Furthermore the students I work with are mainly Android. They may want an iPhone but the can't afford it.
The same is true for the skills employers are so desperate to develop at #ASUGSV2018. The most common I here, "Your kids can't use Excel." I also heard that back when they yelled at us n middle school for not knowing Lotus Notes. Really that's my job? To teach spreadsheets? That's what you want students speding 50k a year on? I wont be in a place to pay my LRA dues until I teach some summer classes. If folks see any interesting #literacies or #lra18 emails on listserv please forward to me. I still argue LRA should move to a "member recruitment" model and not a "member benefit" model. We should allow everyone to see listserv.
My original idea for my next #indieweb project was to set up micro.blog and a reader for my students... But I need to get my own house in order before building the village.
