@sandhawke Any chance you can make it to the #IndieWeb summit? Heck there are enough of the #credweb community group there we could possibly even squeeze in a f2f meeting around the same time.
As #digped teachers we have a moral obligation to model criticality when it comes to online platforms. When we keep using tools like @YouTube we are telling our LGBTQ students "You do not matter" Don't choose convenience over what is right.
Stuff like this https://twitter.com/gaywonk/status/1134263774591037441 is the reason I am in the process of moving my #edtechchat videos from @YouTube to @internetarchive. @YouTube will always choose clicks over community. Hits of hate over anti-harassment policies. Not safe for students
Even if you can't make it @ossia can you share this link https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/05/31/ossia-sorry-to-here-what-is-happening within the @freeCodeCamp community. 100% believe cooking what you eat on your own website is best way to get into code.
@Dan_Blick I am assuming you have to go to ISTE but if not if you could make #IndieWeb summit that would be great. Building some really cool learning tools that put the student and their data first. Its like ISTE but no expensive keynotes or shady vendors
@ossia Sorry to here what is happening to freeCodeCamp...not even offer donations in exchange...thanks for staying committed to #teachtheweb and Open. If around you should come to the #IndieWeb summit, Can explore cool things to do with FreeCodeCampNews
So I guess it is the exact opposite of ISTE. People building tech not just talking hypothetical. Corporate alternatives rather than the coolest new social media trick.
Spending the early morning editing @mozdevnet docs. Again folks always asking how do I get involved with @Mozilla. Helping the MDN team which has done a stellar job last three years is a great place to start.
Here is the correct link in case I sent out the link to 2018: https://2019.indieweb.org/summit ohh and @bonstewart did you watch @t's "What would Bowie do" Take Back Your Web talk: https://vimeo.com/336343886
We should collaborate. Working on same. I can do it @withknown automatically but too hard to install once instance for every kid. Could do one multiuser install. Also checkout unicyclic.com. I love edu logs but they don't allow you too many plugins.
The tools exist now for us to create networks free from corporate control and spying from our own websites. We can still use social media as outreach but as educators we should be modeling a better way. We also need our students to start shaping their truth online
@downes going to be able to make the #IndieWeb Summit this year. In person would be great but remote just as good June 29-30th. I hope to launch my #IndieWeb course builder with webmention badges...doing a crash course in PHP ahead of time as I teach #edu522
