@Eduflack limitations of the medium and the flexibility of "facts" make this tough. Still enjoyed the conversation. Off to get kids in bed

@jerridkruse proposed changes to education laws in CT
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack Why not both? as in current proposal. If you are to be a master teacher/coach you will need speacilized knowledge beyond classroom
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack I know don't have problem with proposed model. I agree with you on most issues except elimination of MEd (still in masters cert)
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack It comes from both. You need the classroom experience and expertise of those who have been there and experts in the field

@Eduflack I was just using phD as example, many factors could be used, I just want more competitive open market salaries.

@Eduflack I would give as mush local control as possible. The latter assumes test scores to be holy grail of performance. many other factors

@Eduflack In BA program you could never cover all the principles of reading diagnostics, assessment building, scaling, coaching, EdLeadrshp

@Eduflack I do not think there is any regular procedure in K12 classroom. Set of recognized best practices, but these get more complicated
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack No its not but I would say she is probably more qualified than most. I put her up against any first year tchr from any program
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack If principles/BOE had the control over starting salary or possible salary scales they could decide how much they value MEd or PhD
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack Agree that school of ed have to convice public at large MEd have value & its not ponzi scheme. It should be uncoupled from raises

@Eduflack Go back to your doctor analogy. U want someone right out of residency or rather see heart specialist after special training
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack I would disagree. Having the oppotunity to earn a PhD at UCONN, a highly competitive, to 25 program made me a much stronger tchr
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack No it doesn't, the programs need to be more competitive and the credit factories for raises disallowed.

@Eduflack I have teacher candidates now in both ece and elem earning second major in ceramics, philosophy, etc. How is that helpful?
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack Not saying eliminate the subject area req but recognize the subject area req should be a pedagogical focus w. clinical component

@Eduflack Plus the #CCSS go way beyond the NRP five pillars of reading. I find the studies by Allington, Darling-Hammon, Pressley as impt
Greg McVerryIn reply to twitter.com ↗
@Eduflack That also assumes the NRP had everything right in the five pillars. Some impt studies didn't meet criteria for inclusion.

@Eduflack know there has been little or no predictive value in degrees beyond BA but the opportunity for in-depth learning invaluable
