I think this is a lesson all developers need to learn. I talk to some amazing CompSci students from top-notch programs but they do not have a fundamental understanding of MTL/CSS worse is the fixed mindset when it comes to creativity
And we serve student populations that need far greater support than @UCONN students. Let's be honest most students at UCONN would have succeeded enough on their privilege alone. Any #highered benefits just gravy.
🍅🍅🍅🍅 Setting up and then sending out webmention badges for #edu407 took longer than I thought but now I will have a good starting point for rest of modules. Besides real growth in feedback not in displaying if criteria met.
@DeadandCompany such a great band. Wow John Mayer you know how to noodle and I love the soul. Feel PigPen be proud, he'd still call ya a Sally.....and Otiel....I have always been a fan...Like top bass players...and only weirdos have a list of top bass players
I often compare this mindset to classically trained musicians. Folks who can do the most beautiful things with directions and documentation but if you tell em to pick out a few notes and a scale to just jam they stare back at you blankly.
#edu307 It isn't so much that they have difficulty with text it is that teachers have a hard time expanding our definition of what counts as a text. Reading that basketball play that @kpchandl discussed is HARD!
@grabaperch do you have any quick getting started and maybe a tutorial for adding webmentions that we could add to #IndieWeb Tutorial page here: https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started#Tutorials
To the #cs4all people who correct me and say I am teaching kids mark up and not code... Go away. Seriously, hang out with people who respond to a post by correcting grammar.
@pauljacobson if you do not mind installing a theme from GitHub https://david.shanske has an updated version of Independent Publisher ready to go. It may fix many of your webmention woes
Great philosophy Jacquelinne, "My philosophy is to be flexible with students and their needs and to start them off with a foundation that will help them grow and have a willingness to learn and not resentment...understand that each student is unique in their backgrounds and that we should create a classroom environment that exemplifies that rather than subdu
@pauljacobson If I remember correctly you have Independent Publisher theme, no microformats2, no mf2 stream plugin correct? IP has minor bugs may mess up webmentions. We are working on them. SemPress still only theme in wp.org that is turn key
@dwaynelaf I actually found the @medium export feature very easy to add to my site. Granted I use #IndieWeb stuff so having microformats on export made it a simple task of cutting and pasting each post into a file. Even tried to kind of recreate the vibe publication layout: https://jgregorymcverry.com/opensourceblogging.html
#edu407 #edu305 #edu307 Kids love to create online. Providing space for agentive writing and making learning about reflection rather than points inspires children. More importantly people onboard to the web through passion and art.
@pauljacobson Yeah mf2 feed plugin and post-kinds doesn't work 100% and microformats plugin never worked. Have to use one of three native themes. Only SemPress.org currently available in WP.org you can get new IP from GitHub
We can talk about getting CECA off of Google Sites later..their lack of HTML and CSS access makes it a detrimental teaching tool for students. Actually harms digital #literacies skills IMO. Go #indieweb, I know CECA has their own domain at ceca.org
@eldelacajita Those are webmentions https://indieweb.org/Webmention your my posts show up as tweets and your replies on Twitter come back to my posts as comments. webmentions link networks built on the #IndieWeb together. Allows you to #BeYourOwnSocialNetwork
@ncte It came at perfect time. We are trying to define, "What is Children's Literature" http://edu307class.networkedlearningcollaborative.com/module1.html
@davewiner I searched and can find nothing. Looked here https://medium.engineering/ and here: https://github.com/Medium/medium-api-docs the Read.me was updated 9 days ago...maybe a bug was introduced? But if so why cut off WordPress and IFTT? there is no publish trigger in IFTT
