@uconn gets all the #highered coverage unless someone in a CSCU campus screws up. I do not think people can grasp the pressures we are under. At the grad council meeting we were all informed we must all focus on enrollment
Today @DeanHegedus charged us with applying for $10 million dollars in grants this year. Based on @ctmirror https://ctmirror.org/2018/12/12/uconns-research-rankings-slips-despite-state-investment/ In 2017 @UconnNeag brought in 4.7 million dollars. They get paid 40-50k more than us and only have to teach half the classes
@DeadandCompany such a great band. Wow John Mayer you know how to noodle and I love the soul. Feel PigPen be proud, he'd still call ya a Sally.....and Otiel....I have always been a fan...Like top bass players...and only weirdos have a list of top bass players
We can talk about getting CECA off of Google Sites later..their lack of HTML and CSS access makes it a detrimental teaching tool for students. Actually harms digital #literacies skills IMO. Go #indieweb, I know CECA has their own domain at ceca.org
I won this CECA award in 2006 for my efforts to teach students how to read and write the web using mythology. I encourage all #ctedu, @scsu SOE alumni, and any teacher into #edtechchat to apply. You all do amazing stuff. Time to get recognized. https://sites.google.com/cecact.org/ceca/awards
OMG! OMG! OMG! Look at changes to @microdotblog #mb https://www.manton.org/2019/01/30/custom-templates-categories.html Talk about feature release...Like a whole new experience. If you want turnkey #indieweb, a platform to help you grow and up your game, but works without touching code this is blogging platform for you
@kevinmarks @aaranged @netsensei forgot @medium. I downloaded all of my content and microformats v2 are on point. a ton of use cases no nadir...though I don't see the h-entry on view source just a bunch of gobbily gook no human could easily understand.
I am still stoked by a commitment to owning data and portability. Still, give @medium mad points on that front. In fact when I downloaded all my posts they even had proper microformats so importing to my site was super easy. Still I had hopes Medium would help redefine the web
Yes for founders and then laters investors all of these ventures made a ton of money, but not one of the companies ever made a profit under William's leadership. As in taking in more money from customers than you spend. Something we call a real business.
But it's the pull back from the commitment to open web that really scares me. Seems to be same pattern for any of the companies in Ev Williams track record, support the open web, raise a bunch of money, slowly cut off third-party developers and open APIs
I love(d) @medium. You can find my promotion and tenure file there. It was one of the first places I POSSEd my work. I felt like we were helping to shape a better web., but you will never 10x 130 million dollars raised at $5 a month per paying user. Never.
@Medium was the startup that was open enough. You could map to your own domain, they used open APIs. They got the web, but funny thing when you take lots of money people expect lots of money back. I pulled away when I knew the math wasn't sustainable
It saddens me to add API restriction and the shut down of the @medium WordPress plugin to the #IndieWeb page. https://indieweb.org/Medium#Criticism I may knock Medium but its because I have been through every pivot from the beginning. Causes user fatigue.
We can do the #femhack program on a shoestring. @IndieWebCamp usually under <500 and that covers meals for everyone., but want to connect with top developers who understand how to mentor. Any support from #nhv #edtechchat #ctedu #cs4all can go long way in CT
Working to bring in such a strong team of mentors. All #femhack funds go to efforts to support teams. But we will not ask people, especially underrepresented folks with mad skills, to do this important work for free. It is a #socialjustice award.
Plus organizing @IndieWebCamp New Haven same weekend. Will have so co-sessions and a#femhack participant invited to everything. We will still leave private spaces for #femhack teams and participants for work and reflection. #nhv #edtechchat #ctedu #cs4all
This event will be open to anyone under 25 who does not self-identify as straight or male. No soylent, Red Bull, or all-nighters. Instead, childcare, pre-planning meetings, and on-site mentors. #nhv #edtechchat #ctedu #cs4all
