Getting our Christmas Tree
Greg McVerry@riccaric @Ebonyteach @that_jedi_scum Not totally done but here is an early draft: https://bit.ly/39o5lfV One thing that I learned is how many early rock and roll stars had strong First Nation lineage as well. Another history erased. Second interesting fact: importance of the Sears Catalog.
Greg McVerry@riccaric @Ebonyteach Ric I also left Hendrix off the list, while he got his start with Little Richard I considered based on style and sound to be a founder of Rock rather than part of Rock-and-Roll.
Greg McVerry@Ebonyteach Its okay. Listening to the radio I think white people have gotten what rock is. I am not sure I have heard a guitar on a track in a long time. (side note was kinda ticked Maria Rambeau only into 90s grunge and we got no 90s Southern HipHop on the Captain Marvel soundtrack)
Greg McVerry@riccaric @Ebonyteach For now you can start here, will pull on to my wiki. I start with Blind Lemon Jefferson and do end at death of with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and "The Big Bopper ( I know cliche) but after that the Merseybeat takes over (lose W. African influence )https://bit.ly/3fLgTen
Greg McVerry@riccaric @Ebonyteach I did a series in y last #literacies class tracing roots of Rock from Rock and Roll and Country. Will pull together in one post. Fun fact "Western" in country western refers to a train line black musicians worked.
