@_PonteLasPilas Then encourage a poetry or short reading in language they are learning. Create a caring not competitive space. Last thing an anxious learner needs is stress of competition. #edtechchat
By transculturation I mean the complex combination of synchronizing and synthesizing processes that adopt and adapt, meld and blend, combine and fuse diverse cultural elements in somewhat new cultural expressions in innovative and inventive ways José Cuéllar El Saxofón in Tejano and Norteño Music #quote
When you turn to explore your path to victory clearly lessons every loss taught sought the finish line more than anything you did this time #poetryport
@ajpodchaski My point is tech is already a white male dominated world. We want to fix this. Using competition as a tool for #edtech will exacerbate not alleviate the problem we all seek to solve #edtechchat
We also have to understand the bias is baked into design. History littered with travesty caused by those with the best intentions....Those who know they are doing right...are often the most dangerous. #edtechchat
Found out about #TeachLivingPoets from https://lithub.com/whatever-your-classroom-please-teach-more-living-poets/ classee should check out what we are doing with #clmooc #poetryport
@ajpodchaski I cite a lot of relevant #edtechchat research on gamification of assessment and bookmark much of the research on my website. Just choose bookmarks and search for hashtags like #online #learningsciences #cogntivescience
At same event, no joke, MC of event said more girls need to get involved because teams need their management and organization skills...f' that. I want their coding skills. #edtechchat
@ajpodchaski Wasn't bad MC..Super good human committed to making world better. Use as an illustrative case to the bias that can be reinforced by equating tech and competition. Not an either or, just a mroe be aware and consider goals. #edtechchat

@ajpodchaski It ain't a competition, thoughtful conversation born of cross pollination. Let's stop defining search of knowledge as one of false scarcity. Twitter like #edcamp, just vote with tweets instead of feet #edtechchat #isedcoach
@ajpodchaski I will say I love the FL lego league. It was a great experience and the core values stressed great, have a ton of outreach for all female teams, but it was still a sea of privilege. Work needs to be done #edtechchat
@KeriHenare Probably describes me. It's like a skiing and snowboarding thing. I could learn to snowboard, people for decades telling me it is better, but I already know how to get down the mountain and want to limit number of time I fall
@nathan_stevens Did teach my oldest how to scrape the source code so he could own the data and publish it on his own website #IndieWeb style (says grumpy old man complaining about problem he is a part of). https://sportstalk.jgregorymcverry.com/pages/2019-season-stats #edtechcat
@CharlieRoseMari Check out the prototype I mocked up (cw for the those with any light or strobe sensitivity) . https://samizdat.jgregorymcverry.com open peer review publish on your site,, and syndicate to journal.
@Hypepraise Way better than my son's school. Lego part of Intervention and Enrichment class...Only kids not broken who don't need intervention are worthy of enrichment....so messed up....I hate RtI/SRBI and all the damage it has does #edtechchat
"The wriggling worlds discovered beneath a flat stone" Love this line... Though when I read it this morning I thought it was words not worlds... Still dig it. Quite the worm hole
I have been to two @IndieWebCamp events this month. One in Ghana and one in Austin (thank you remote) we don't have a competition but we set personal goals on our hack day. Make it about growth not winning. #edtechchat
My #edtechchat tl;dr Gender inequality exists in tech. yes competition shows learning. Competition in learning and tech rooted in deeply sexist discourses. There are great positives to technology events but let's root them in feminist pedagogies
