We are talking surviving, not improving. Students didn't sign up for this, don't try to "improve" just design simple learning experiences with clear directions and explicit criteria for success. Be present in class. Thats it. #edtechchat
loving new media #literacies infographics but when you save images to txt people who use screen readers can not read them...please make sure when choosing infographic maker text is accessible to all. Critical literacy = action to equity
Next video in teaching online in time of crisis series. I cover what to do Week One (like on Monday...hint its not a rescheduled midterm)...https://jgregorymcverry.com/myvideos#covid19instructionaldesign please download using the torrent if you can. I like transmission as client
Ignore the list of tools, focus on care, first and foremost. Parents will lose jobs, schedules in disarray. Compassion right now should be the only tool you use when designing online class learning. #edtechchat
Hard at work last few days on videos for students & teachers: https://jgregorymcverry.com/myvideos Please if you recognize the word Torrent, download a client, seed the videos, embed those rather than link to mine. Bandwidth spikes #edtechchat
You may not have the physical cues of presence but you can learn to see signs of the cognitive and social presence of your students during asynch and synch learning. My thing, don't require sync..people have no control over time #edtechchat
Creativity thrives in constraint. Too much choice leads to anxiety for learners. Plus it taxes teacher as you must now have to support more technical learning. As a district choose a small set of tools, lean on each other, #edtechchat
Just schedule open drop in time for students, let them hang and do work in a loosely structured time, either in live video chat or juts bantering about in Google Classroom. #edtechchat
Hey @scsu here is a reflection on how I plan an online lecture: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/07/25/how-i-made-my-lecture-on-disciplinary-literacies-instructionaldesign https://jgregorymcverry.com/microlecturesandkaltura
So far all we got were logins to websites that rely on flash and don't really work anymore, packets and online materials will be coming this week we are told. #edtechchat
If only schools just provided students with a website early on and they were used to documenting their learning from their own domain. I am hoping this build up a recognition to teach digital infrastructure #edtechchat
Speaking of tools, please remember accessibility, post the questions in tweets as well as iamges with texts that can not be accessed by those who use screen readers. #edtechchat

Very worried about the bandwidth of the systems servers and third party cloud applications...I fear a "gas shortage like approach" If your last name is A-M you learn M-W-F and T-R-S for students letter M-Z.
Hey @scsu folks been noticing a major slow down in Kaltura, probably my upstream, never have great service in the rain, and every kid on a tablet, but coul be everyone uploading videos. You can save videos and then upload later tonight when traffic is down.
@BriannaWu My partner already lost their job. My entire town of East Haddam, CT runs on tourism. Personally we are more fortunate than most but I still fear the struggle. Can do the math. Hoping student loan forgiveness is pitched as a bailout. Why do just airlines, auto, oil, and cruise get the money.
