Built this set of lessons on building your first website as part of the #clmocc #feldgang this summer. Bunch of people running through the lessons. Happy to have k12 join us, do cool virtual meet ups or something: https://buildyourfirstwebsitelessonplans.glitch.me/ #nctechat
Watch out for those pesky books too....don't want kids developing elbow or eye strain issues....best way to handle privacy and notifications is teach kids to build their own platform so you never are the product. #nctechat
@LGZreader I dig them a ton. Great job. We do need to realize that often the technologies ARE the #literacies we want to use in our classrooms. Having tool use as an objective ain't bad when it's attached to doing something with langauge #nctechat
@CinqSarah So true! This is why we must be critical. Is it fair for your teacher to make you hand off data to a third party advertising company (prolly illegal too...shhh). Also why we must discuss how notifications work. how toxic they are #nctechat
Here is a quick mini lesson I made after I noted all of my students submitting a summary rather than a reflection or a reaction to a reading: http://jgregorymcverry.com/writeareadingreflection.html #nctechat
Here is a bunch of fun stuff to #teachtheweb https://glitch.com/@jgmac1106/fun-stuff-to-teach-the-web CSS poetry, fake facebook pages, movie posters. Easy to find a pedagogical goal and teach HTML. Funny how few high school classrooms teach children to actually write the web. #nctechat
@WillTeachEng They will keep us in #check if we try to recreate a battle between the Stans and the VSCO, best thing we could do is create a network of schools and students...Not schoolifying their space but building "our space" together. #nctechat
never know how truth gets shaped online until you shape your own, then we model how we make connective pathways to learning. I keep all my bookmarks https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/content/bookmarkedpages/ blog through drafts: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/content/posts/ and then turn to articles #nctechat
Yes Google Sites is awful way to build a website if you want to teach children how to build websites. I been digging on Ursula Franklin and the idea of holistic and prescriptive tech #nctechat
@JoriKrulder I see it in #highered I teach #edu106 New Literacies: Digital Tech and Tools for Lifelong Learning. About a third of the class doesn't have access to a laptop. #nctechat I sign out carts like K12 teachers everywhere..
@jacquelinerabe Flagship Universities, like all land grant universities, aren't built to serve the poor....if they were they wouldn't have been built in places where no people of color live. They are designed to reinforce not tackle inequity. #realcollege
@schockfind most persona work REINFORCES rather than challenges stereotypes, don't know of studies but my hypothesis is you wold see a lot of white single males defined as power users the all the skillz while a single mom with no time defined on low end
We have put in millions of dollars grants from 25K to 1.4 million to bring #DoOO to k12 schools. Any school can get involved and it is a tiny budget hit when you think about the return in digital learning and data. reach out #nctechat
I think something magical happens when students can finish this sentence, "My url is" 100% believe the best thing schools could do to up digital skills is just provide every student with a #DoOO Domain of One's Own #nctechat Students like shaping their truth.
