"Just 51% of borrowers whose took out loans from 2010-12 have made any progress at all in paying down their debt." I pay 486 a month. I got my undergrad in 1999, MA in 2001, PhD in 2013, my 50k in debt has never gone down. I only pay interest.
We had a $100 payment (on top of the $468) when paying the bill the decimal was missed. $10000 instead of $100.00. Wiped out life savings, never recovered, could not get refund. At least we only owe $468 a month.
@Bali_Maha we need to get him in @virtuallyconnecting chat and add you to @weareopencoop slack. All knowledge takes literacy. No modifier needed. Reason I am okay with digital #literacies it involves new tools and practices of making meaning.
Ohh and the Masters and Doctorate were paid for with assistantships. All my debt from deferring, consolidating and undergrad... It will never go away. A permanent ⚓ trying to drown us.... And we paid 10k off already by accident.
We hit a trillion dollar deficit this year. Mainly because of Trump tax cuts for the uber rich. Repeal the tax cut. Spread student loan tax cuts over the years. Watch middle class and economy grow. Right now economy growing, unemployment low but wealth hoarded
As a society we decide how to fuel the economy. The Trump tax cuts mean billionaires now pay less in taxes than middle class. The thinking is the money grows the economy... But it doesn't. Anyone feel richer with Market at 30k?
Loan forgiveness isn't about handouts. It is about growing the economy. Tax relief can be an engine for middle class growth. Just allow total debt to be a write off and allow a "negative" tax rate to spread cost over years.
@actualham All of my syllabi get a CC-By-SA or a NC license Part of reason all the #oer textbook stuff grinds me. Im selfish & lazy. All teach same classes. Let's share our syllabi & remix our instructional design. Restore a tiny bit of balance
Thus by definition all field of knowledge require new digital #literacies, there is no tech industry. It is how we read, write, and participate. When we define it as tech or edtech we ignore the realities of how language evolves
