My guess white and rich schools = acceptable level of mediocrity, IBPOC schools = not so much progress. Remotelearning isn't too different than on the ground
@ilana_horn Folks always think schools designed for some Deweyian egalitarian utopia but ask BIPOC communities(and read history) really k12 schools got invented as effective tools of inhumane racist violence and assimilation.
Tales traveling on God's rays, answers scatter in elastic truths of today particles simmering just below the horizon orange darts glisten with hope dancing on air #smallpoems
@DocDre I have been dwelling on this as kind of a mielstone...when does the tyranny of reaching a word count evolve into the tyranny of syaing under the word count occur? That is when you have officially become a writer
Thank your for pushing back against racist and colonial views @ilana_horn. Pedagogy can BE both effective and racist. A poem I wrote for all the kids living through the tyranny of TLAC classrooms: https://jgregorymcverry.com/poetry/pepperedmoth.mp3
So what if a 100 art organizations in specific zones of marginalized communities got 1.2 million for a program cosponsored with schools to improve reading comprehension? #literacies
SVR lines up perfectly with STM "simple transportation models have an engine on one factor called "combustion" and everything else factor called "kinetic understanding" explains 90% of variance in movement performance #literacies
@booktoss hmm...who organized all the sessions on exploring definitions of maleness in Zine culture...Haven't been to LRA in a hot minute but I swore it was you,,,,uggh memory going
"Reaping the Rewards of Reading for Understanding" apropos title summarizing grant. $120 million in fed money, What if went to schools that teach IBPOC children rather than research universities that study them #literacies https://naeducation.org/reaping-the-rewards-of-reading-for-understanding-initiative/
Imagine one hundred 1.2 million dollar grants rather that just six grants.... Literally that much money went to just six teams....this kind of exclusionary investment reinforces systemic racism...#literacies
@rpondiscio schools have a greater source of data than any time in history. Machine Learning models could compare artifacts to trained models against #CCSS for example.
It was Barbara Gazzetti, Katina Zammitt, Betsy Baker and a crew of fun discussants, wow I miss hanging with those folks. Hopefully one outcome of this horrible pandemic is a rethinking of the inequity built into academic conferences
@booktoss are you around at all to talk Zines? I miss our sessions at LRA on Zines every year....doing a quick pop up class for my students on using zines in the classroom.
English, as a subject for example, only exists because Governors though their children were going "too native" in India and needed training in the Queen's tongue and reminder of Western greatness.....
The results would be just as insignificant of many of tRfU "developmental studies" that spent 120 million in tax dollars, but at least the dollars get poured back into the communities we want to help. Jobs = education #literacies
still spending federal tax $$ to validate SVR models??? #literacies like for real.. anyone be surprised about internal consistency of phonics measures and dumping every other variable into factor called listening comprehension?
