@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse @jaanus BTW This time it was Estonian Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), the tax and customs board, and the Ministry of Justice. just like how it was statues then and borders now, here it was statues then and borders now, in Estonia too
@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse @jaanus Estonia has mad talent. Literally some of the strongest cyber defenses on the planet And word is they tried to warn Obama about the Tea Party and Birthers back in 2007/2008 too as being a russian influence campaign Though I have lost that reference.
@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse @jaanus Like the California National Guard in Ukraine after NotPetya and hardening our systems, One of the key NATO partnerships are National Guard cyber talent rotating in and out of Baltic Nations More to learn, then to teach quite often
@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse @jaanus I don't know if it still exists but after 2007 the Estonian Cyber Defense League was set up as an offshoot of a paramilitary group dating back to 1918 that became public again in 1992 Literally trained citizens ready to mobilize during cyber attacks. Much of our Guard as well
@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse @jaanus Oops it was Bronze Soldier back in 200y officially “Monument To the Fallen in the Second World War” not a Lenin Statue. I was half kidding, the book was me, just not good about bragging, One thing to note Maryland National Guard helped, and Estonia Cyber Defense League
@JoohnChoe @poliitikasse I didn't know @jaanus wrote a textbook. Not sure if it is still sleep time there but that Fella can fill you in. The fact that Estonia handled that attack is amazing Folks deserve medals, largest attack in Estonia's history and they kept packets moving
@poliitikasse @JoohnChoe Why May 9th Russia defeats Germany and if you hate Stalin it makes you a Nazi...duh This piece is a good review ten years later: Herzog, S. (2017). Ten years after the Estonian cyberattacks: Defense and adaptation in the age of digital insecurity. Geo. J. Int'l Aff., 18, 67.
@poliitikasse @JoohnChoe Nobody took credit but gov websites were quereid with stuff like "ANSIP_PIDOR=FASCIST” Remember Ansip was Prime Minister at the time Russian message boards lit up with directions to really attack Estonia on May 9, 2007
@poliitikasse @JoohnChoe Folks in Americ,a think about Confederate Statues, the biggest attack before this in Estonia was 2007. Over a Lenin Statue That DDOS attack lasted 22 days and did cripple things. Mainly just nuisance stuff, but online banking was hit hard. Estonia been getting ready since.
@poliitikasse @JoohnChoe It's because the Estonian Information Systems Authority (RIA) is Based. Estonia has one of the most impressive systems on the planet. Estonia Remembers. Estonia Knows Largest attack in history and barely a peep. https://t.co/ZdtKz2fTWx
@marymcnamara You have two barriers to clear as a public person suing private citizen You have to prove -knowingly and willing lying -doing so with deliberate malicious content.
