Greg McVerry@listening_loup @MozLearn Reading through all the case studies there is a lot of inside baseball and mention of alumni no longer with Mofo or MoCo. Now I feel bad for the audience. Reading without context so hard. but if the audience is the network I guess they will have prior knowledge
Greg McVerry@SCSU the sloppiness is on purpose as I want students to edventually get to filing a PR on GitHub
Greg McVerryHere is the intro level edtech class I teach at @scsu http://bit.ly/2q9dVIa Have to take folks who have never seen a line of html to developing their own websites. #elc2018
Greg McVerryRT @AFTunion: “This is a moral issue. We have an obligation to all kids.” - @rweingarten on DACA at #ELC2018 https://t.co/gOVaagiXET
Greg McVerryI think back to the things that kept me out of computer science as a kid. Who knows maybe it was a good thing I graduated college just as the first bubble burst http://bit.ly/1zfgEj7 #elc2018
Greg McVerry@kevinKwang: Goal isn't to make CS a special. The goal is to normalize computer science. #elc2018
Greg McVerry@JeremyDBond @davidbraze @amirad @haskinslabs Let's use #JeremyRocks or #Tech4All
Greg McVerryFrom a @google survey 90+% of parents wanted computer science in school but only 5% of district sups though parents wanted computer science. #elc2018
Greg McVerryIf you have ever used Thimble to teach CS please note it was tested and UX feedback given by #NHV k12 and #highered students. http://bit.ly/2qcV3aU #elc2018 Plenty of open source ways to get involved. Support ethical tech
Greg McVerry@cameronpwilson brought up teacher certification. I think CT can challenge any state in the nation fro having the most outdated model. The regulations for teacher prep are older than students in my class (1999) #elc2018
Greg McVerryI also think when we start in #cs4all let's not think AP CS, let's think about transforming teaching much younger. If we just moved to a Domain of Ones Own and gave every kids 5gigs and a url we would do much more for much cheaper in #ctedu than training teachers #elc2018
Greg McVerryI honestly doubt teacher prep programs could even support #CS4all. It takes 2-3 years to get a program approved, massive committee approval. By the time we are approved no one will be using React on the front end #elc2018
Greg McVerryVoluntold---I love it. In #ctedu as a teacher if you have talent you are only rewarded with more responsibility even worseI know of HomeEc teachers with no support #elc2018
Greg McVerry@_annieechen I would say it IS literacy. The way we read, write, and participate has changed. #elc2018
Greg McVerry@jonbecker Good, hopefully the shortage and these jobs can become tenured faculty lines rather.... Then again maybe tenure is the reason we need so many instructional designers. #highered
Greg McVerryKickin git with @kevinkwang @tealsk12org @jmaroneyct and @cameronpwilson as they talk Computer Science not so much STEM #elc2018
Greg McVerryMy take on the STEM crisis in education: http://bit.ly/2sU7U1I I think we do need to frame CS as a literacy issue and not a tech issue it is how we read, write, and participate. #elc2018
Greg McVerry@charlotte_evel I agree we are seeing the traditional VC model simply doesn't work in k12 education. I am hoping to see new funding models and ownership models like co-ops emerge, #elc2018
Greg McVerryWe also have to be careful. WE Know both @salesforce and @pearson have started patent applications around badging platforms. We need edtech firms and VCs to support the open source infrastructure. #elc2018
