@AERA_EdResearch No, do not accept this. The publishing industry is based on a model of knowledge "scarcity" it is simply not true. It reinforces systemic bias in #HigherEducation We need to end the exploitation of scholarly work, #AERA19 #Resist
(AAC&U) sees liberal education as "a philosophy of education that empowers individuals with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and a strong sense of value, ethics, and civic engagement." Answer on bubble sheet to this, "all of the above" you can totes give an ethics test
Educators loved Google+ networks. Early on the network created a close simulation to what an open web of writers could look like.Heck before Google Apps for Education was a thing we created a Google+ group "Using Google as a Free LMS." Then as teachers, all being on boarded to Google's domination in the k12 market, turned to Blogger and Google+, and fell in
@bail_maha here is a decent report of the quantitative research on fluency http://www.ciera.org/library/reports/inquiry-2/2-008/2-008.html Always found much the research to fall in the "No Duh" category...you mean if you read something over and over again you start to read it faster?
"Southern believes that such an education can be transformative and empowering as well as practical. A curriculum based on this philosophy is a curriculum for a new generation! " so we will use outdated methods of assessment that we know carry systemic racial bias" cuz you know #socialjustice
Ashley this a great extended metaphor poem, interestingly enough in our research it was common for poets who identified as female to often write about dance and life and use a metaphor of being trapped in perfection or wishing to be be free. #edu307
Wow Meagan you went above and beyond on this #edu307 task: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UCYS_IKPCONFt7fMPt-AuCz81qsQQKDMSNYIf5MqXNY/edit this was actually a unit taken from a New Haven Public Schools Teacher Dr. Stein. #edu307
Let the liberal education program focus on the agency of the learner, let them DO school rather than pushing to DO school to them. They have suvived that hell in #k12, don't bring it to #highered
@mikeelgan people who call Google+ a flop have no idea how much money over decades of users Google will make with Google Classroom. So much of the design and UX is the same, wonder if they shared any codebase.G+ had to influence Google Classroom development
Hint, hint #edu307 looking for someone to make the connection between Aneglou's poem "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and Dunbar's "Sympathy" poem. Are their lives, words or worlds connected in anyway??
There will be no money given to purchase previously validated measures. It will be faculty created and scored assessments turned into charts where will then justify our stories with graphs based on fiction
Our liberal education nothing but impossible to navigate, more cumbersome than every other university in Connecticut, vulcanize into required classes d by majors facing credit restrictions, no true pathway of knowledge and skills guides from tier 1, 2 to tier 3 capstone
#edu307 thinking about these three categories for poems emotions, images, and stuff....it really works and the discussions you can have around these topics are great: https://education6040.wordpress.com/2019/04/04/poetry-is-like-directions-for-your-brain/
Most importantly students of @scsu deserve one universal general ed/liberal ed track across State. Including the other three university and the community colleges. Either we have a @CSCSUnews system or we do not. Taxpayers should demand the porability and affordability
@khurtwilliams This is a great piece. Just bookmarked get's at both the why and how we need to build these skills in people. Literacy has always been about privilege and power. Why would web be different? And only way to ensure dominant literacies don't hold power of others is to ensure you do the hard work of providing literacy skills while acknowledging th
@MikeElgan another unwritten story is to how teacher outcry led to reversal of Google and allowing them to stay by connecting a Google+ profile to a .edu email if you were also a Google Suite school (we still say GAFE). Those communities were still huge at shut down
#AERA19 liberal education doesn't need an assessment plan it needs an UNASSESSMENT plan. We claim to be a school of #socialjustice at @scsu but we bend to the whims of accreditation boards that suck up much needed resources and protect adults not students
