See the debate isn't about #open or closed scholarship. That really misses the point. At the heart of the debate is a philosophy of where our work should have impact, how and who gets paid for the work, and what should count ads work that actually works. #lra18
As a reminder now that #lra18 is in the books we will follow our tradition and start using the #lra19 hashtag for all things @LRA_LitResearch I will set up the archives. e-editors if you need help setting up an archive using official channels let me know.
Yet we will have to fight for community engaged scholarship, for our work at the praxis, to count as much or more than our empirical studies...while we also need to bring iterative research to the communities we build. #lra18
Especially #lra18 members interested in radical change. The org models used by @IndieWebCamp provide a good playbook. Type of change people want can not happen in formal orgs like LRA or universities. Not a knock, just a reality. It will take collectives
@peggysemmingson @marcellehaddix Peggy we are also organizing @indiewebcamp Austin Feb 23-24th. You should drive down. Other #lra18 members interested in blogging, social media, or want to build their website should go as well.
I need to understand more about the Paris protests. As cars become more efficient fuel taxes have to go up to bring in same revenue. It's math. No politican in US can raise fuel taxes and keep a job. Why our roads crumble.
@MarcelleHaddix We can brainstorm after you get a few days off. I am helping to organize an @indiewebcamp online and will have a better feel, but the on the ground #IndieWeb events are always 100% free and cost about >500 (all donations) to run.
Did you notice the custom domain feature in @glitch you can enable by helping two people learn. Wonder if there have been other examples as using domains as currency. Capital for social capital.
@peggysemingson You are now listed as a member of the editorial board and an advisor to samizdat http://samizdat.jgregorymcverry.com/ourteam.html #lra18 #lra19
@MarcelleHaddix ooohhh...just had thought what if each area chair organized an online unconference once a year? Workload wouldn't be too much but LRA would then 10-12 months of content. Maybe an additional 1-2k in mrr #lra18
dani@00dani.me @ruxton @mrkndvs @vanessa @wentale https://www.serenawho.com/ @eddiehinkle organizing an online @indiewebcamp if Australian interest could run live sessions (keynotes, intros, demos) in your timezone.. We just need an Aussie organizer. Volunteers?
@peggiysemmingson continuing the #lra18 @vconnecting sessions as an online miniconference is a great idea!! Already organizing this for 2019-03-19 and 2019-03-20 https://indieweb.org/2019/Online/Planning an unconference for two days of hacking on personal websites.
Each area chair could do either an uncoference, or have strands: researrch (traditional), methods (learn and debate), teaching (the majority workload for most members), learning (deep dive with an expert). Charge $50-100 and easily bank a grand a month.
