Still waiting #satchat haven't seen one piece of peer reviewed research, suggesting SVR is the best model for reading. I do not know of one #literacies scholar who attends the literacy research association who would suggest this.
More of a recognition you can not separate #literacies from social studies and science...text structure, concept maps, authentic discipline specific tasks that utilize texts the way they would be in field. #satchat
@runningdmc FYI @microdotblog is giving away free websites with podcasting tools to teachers. Best turn key blogging platform that also integrates #IndieWeb principles #satchat
DM me if you want to join our children's literature wiki (had one on wikispaces with 1000s of reviews and lessons shared by students and teachers. https://www.childrensliteraturewiki.jgregorymcverry.com/doku.php #satchat
talk of #literacies and mislabled half truths pretending to be science but really need to take this moment and interrogate systemic inequities that got us here. Let us rethink and reshape the world not reinforce mistakes #satchat
Do poetry w/ students lessons universal, also great way to reinforce science and social studies concepts, my daily #poembox podcast https://jgregorymcverry.com/mypoetry#audiopoems #satchat encourage those who want to write every day, these memories impt
I have some tips on teaching vocab and notetaking in our cotent areas...but most important #literacies in other subjects require students DO the subjects not just read a textbook. https://jgregorymcverry.com/myvideos #satchat
@arete14 Not according to the simple view of reading @ehanford pushes no room for joy of reading, motivation, or writing. It is an empty and bankrupt model of #literacies #satchat
Been collecting read aloud resources here: https://www.childrensliteraturewiki.jgregorymcverry.com/doku.php?id=find_books anyone of all ages welcome to join the wiki, have kids record a read aloud or write a review. #satchat
I can believe F+P, Caulkins, and misuse of miscue analysis are garbage and not buy into the simple view of reading. Those aren't mutually exclusive. #satchat
Check out the #clmooc crew and invite your students to write with us been doing a radio show with teaching supplementals during the lockdown http://longthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/doku.php?id=notes_for_radio_show (CW one curseword BS in second episode) #satchat
@JoshuaPStarr Agree boils down to who gets to count what as reading...like all the districts who said "no new learning" right now...as if you can hit a button and stop people from learning. #satchat
Bunch of #literacies assessment tips that can help colleagues who teach in the discipline.,...want better readers...forget all the strategy instruction and double down on social studies and science https://jgregorymcverry.com/assessmentliteracy #satchat
Ohhh in case you were wondering #satchat...no one, not a single person, posted a single citation to a peer review article still suggesting an SVR model of reading....because there isn't any (in last two decades)
The disregard people have for actual science and the speed at which shades of truth can spread.#satchat https://jgregorymcverry.com/misreadingscienceofreading is such a limited vapid model , nobody uses simple view of reading models in #literacies research
@MangabhaiRuth #clmooc folks love student writers check us out on our webring (in footer of my website) or on https://clmoocring.jgregorymcverry.com/ happy to have our poets visit classes and teach guest lessons
